The Barnstaple Photographic Club has made history by winning the prestigious Western Counties Photographic Federation Interclub Competition for the first time ever, beating 47 other clubs from across the South West region. This remarkable achievement marks a new milestone in the club’s 105-year history and solidifies its reputation as a leading force in regional photography.
The competition, held annually, showcases the finest photographic talent from clubs across the region. This year’s event was particularly competitive, with judges praising the exceptional quality, creativity, and technical expertise demonstrated by all participants. Barnstaple Photographic Club secured victory with a stunning portfolio of images that captivated both judges and spectators alike.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have won this competition for the first time,” said Andy Francis, Vice Chairperson of Barnstaple Photographic Club. “It is a testament to the dedication, talent, and hard work of our members, who continue to push the boundaries of photographic excellence. This victory is not just for our club but for the entire Barnstaple community.”
The club’s winning portfolio featured a diverse range of subjects, including breathtaking landscapes, and compelling wildlife photography. The judges commended the club’s ability to convey powerful narratives through their images, setting them apart from the competition.
Barnstaple Photographic Club, founded in 1920, has long been a hub for photography enthusiasts, providing a platform for members to hone their skills, share knowledge, and participate in local and national competitions. The club welcomes photographers of all levels, from beginners to professionals, and offers a vibrant program of workshops, guest speakers, and competitions throughout the year.
“This win is an inspiration to our members and a reminder of what can be achieved through passion and perseverance,” added Andy. “We look forward to building on this success and continuing to elevate the art of photography in our region.”
Barnstaple Photographic Club will now be invited to the national UK Championships held by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain later this year and to further celebrate their victory will be creating an online special exhibition featuring the award-winning images, along with other standout works from its members.
